With my Kimber Pro Carry, like most folks I am fed up with needing a takedown tool, aka paperclip to take down my pistol. It seems that every time I go to clean my pistol, it seems like I need to rob another paper-clip from my wife!
Wilson Combat knows this, and they’ve created a nice product to alleviate this pain, making the takedown of the Kimber 1911 much easier, all the while making the recoil and action much much smoother! These spring kits also fit on almost all other 1911 models.
Introducing the Wilson Combat Flat-Wire Recoil Spring kit! Available from Wilson Combat for $49.95 shipped!
Installing the new recoil spring is a breeze, the first step is to remove the factory Kimber recoil spring (better run and find you a paper clip!)
Next, pull the Flat-wire Recoil Spring kit out of the bag, and assemble as shown below
Next, you insert the metal pushing into the guide rod hole on the slide (this will allow you to insert/remove the recoil spring much like any Glock, or S&W M&P Pistol). Then insert the recoil spring into the bushing. Next insert the guide-rod into the recoil spring as shown below.
Next, push forward on the guide rod lug, compressing the recoil spring until you can “lock” the guide rod lug behind the barrel link as shown below.
Now all thats left is to reassemble the slide onto the frame of the pistol, and you can see the guide rod bushing view below.
The Wilson Combat Flat-Wire Recoil Spring Kit is a must have for any Kimber Pistol owner. It makes the takedown and assembly of the Kimber 1911 a simple process requiring zero tools!

Yep, but do they make one for the 3″ Ultra-series Kimbers?
Now that is a brilliant invention to a problem we all face with our Kimbers!
I do not see a 3″ listed on their site
A kit from Wilson that will convert 3″ barrel model would be well received by the shooting public.
I own a Kimber Ultra Carry II and know the frustration associated with disassembly and reassembly of the gun. There is available a tool from NDZ performance that turns this process into a piece of cake. Go to their website and check it out. http://www.ndzperformance.com. While I would prefer the Wilson solution, this is really a boon to Kimber owners especially if you own an Ultra model.
